Hardened and tempered high Carbon spring Steel 1075, was thermally treated by the manufacturer to achieve high yield strenght and hardness. The advantages of pre hardened Carbon Steel are: improved flatness, lack of distortion, homogenous structure, and smooth and uniform surface.
Hardened and Tempered High Carbon Steels are limited in bending and drawing, and require fine tools and dies to minimize wear.
Hardened and Tempered Carbon Steels have dark blue or gray surface, but can have other colors depending on the oils used in the process.
As an additional process the strip can be polished by mechanical means to obtain smooth surface or brushed for a brushed look. The finishing process does not affect the mechanical properties of the Steel.
Hardened Carbon Steel is suitable for: Leaf Springs, Band Saws, Disc Saws, Clutches, Printers Rulers, Doctor Blades, Knives, and more.
The most common Hardened and Tempered Steel for springs contains about 0.77% Carbon and the same percentage of Manganese (SAE 1075, CS80, C75S)
Maton Metals stocks various gauges of Hardened and Tempered spring Steels in coils and sheets.
